Open Stamp Night!
I love all my customers! You guys are all amazing and you have made this new venture totally worth it! As a " thank-you" to you all, I want to start offering a once a month open stamp night. By now most of you have received your first order or maybe even three or four, you have fallen in love with the product and you can't wait to get your hands on your own supplies-- but it is still sitting in the original packaging, now what? Friends, I don't want you to just be a collector of amazing product, I want my customers to ENJOY their product and use the product! So please, bring your unopened and/or unused product and we will work through it together! The more you get your hands on the product and you work with it, the easier and more confident you will feel. Come with your supplies, ideas and questions, I will be available to assist and guide as needed! There is no fee for this class, but please RSVP so I don't decide to come home from work and put my jammies on! :) The first Open Stamp Night will be held on Thursday, August, 22 at 6:30 pm.
Some things to think about:
- I have been stamping nearly my entire life and I still have a hard time coming up with ideas and designs that are my own creations. There is nothing wrong with "casing" another crafter's design. You can use your Annual Catalog, google, pinterest, blogs, and even the cards from class to spark an idea. There is absolutely nothing wrong with borrowing ideas or simply recreating a card that someone else posted- chances are they borrowed it from another crafter too, it is how we all get started.
- It is okay to make a mess. This past week when I was planning the August class, I used 3 rooms and 4 works surfaces during my designing process. There are tidy and organized crafters ( I am not sure where they are or how they do it, but I have heard they exist, I personally think they are unicorns and they are amazing.) and then there are crafters like myself that can not work unless everything is spread out in utter chaos. Seriously, I had my craft table covered, the dining room table, the kitchen counter and the floor covered with supplies. Strangely enough I didn't lose anything, as soon as I organized it to get it ready for class, couldn't find a single thing.
- You do not have to own everything in order to get started. I am going to say that again. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO OWN EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU GET STARTED! I had a hard time with this one myself. I grew up in a home with a fully stocked craft room and access to everything my little heart could desire; when I moved out and bought my own home and I was building my own collection of craft supplies, I found myself hoarding. I was gathering and collecting and waiting until I had all the colors, all the paper, all the stamps, all the gizmos, gadgets and thingys before I felt like I could create. To some degree, it can be valid. However, if you feel like you are constantly needing more items before you can start, then maybe we need to look at how you are ordering. Let me help you! I like for my new customers to buy things in suites or projects. So that when you get your product home, you can complete a finished project. Then as you progress you build on your collection, but the new items should be enhancing your collection not just adding to a pile of unopened supplies.
- Speaking of ordering for the new customer, I LOVE the new Experience Creativity Catalog. It does exactly what I suggested above. It breaks things down into the "must-haves" to complete a finished project without overwhelming you with a bazillion products that breaks the bank to create 1 project. Starting with your basic adhesive and scissors is a great starting point. Notecards are also a wonderful way to get started especially if you don't have a paper trimmer or have never cut paper before. The notecards come pre-scored and have a complimenting envelope. If you are completely new to card making and paper crafting, starting with punches to give dimension and layers is also a great start. A lot of our new products have complimenting punches so you don't have to have a fancy machine. Even starting with a circle punch is a fantastic way to get variation in your layer shape and give your project dimension.
- Last but not least:
You is smart, You is wonderful and You is ready to make cards!
